Flashing Ambulance Christmas Decoration Ornament

Flashing Ambulance Christmas Decoration Ornament

1. Introduction

This article will explain how to make a flashing Ambulance Christmas Decoration Ornament.

2. Step 1: Design The Circuit

The circuit is very simple. A flashing LED connected to 3 V battery source. This flashing LED is designed to work with 5 V. However, it can work with voltages anywhere from 2 V to 5 V.

3. Step 2: Draw Ambulance With A Marker

Use a marker to draw the ambulance van picture.

4. Step 3: Drill The Hole For LED

Use 9 mm drill bit to drill a hole for the LED. I used a 10 mm drill bit that was a bit too big for the LED.

5. Step 4: Strip The Battery Holder Wires

Use wire stripper to strip the battery holder wires ask shown in the photo.

Figure 5: Strip The Battery Holder Wires.

6. Step 5: Remove The Battery Holder Cover

Use screw driver to unscrew the screw to remove the battery holder cover.

7. Step 6: Stick The Battery Holder And Insert The LED

Use glue gun to stick the battery holder onto the back of the ornament and insert the LED.

In my case the hole for the LED was to wide, the LED was loose so I used glue gun to stick the LED to the ornament.

This is how I put glue onto the LED:

8. Step 7: Testing

Connect the red battery block wire to the longer LED pin (anode) and the black battery block wire to the short LED pin (cathode).

9. Step 8: Soldering

Use 60 W soldering iron to solder lead free solder to the LED pins to avoid poor contacts due to rust.

Conclusion

You can connect two, three or four flashing LED in parallel to create various flashing ornaments. Parallel flashing LEDs will NOT always turn ON at the same time. Series connected flashing LEDs will turn ON at the same time. However, for series flashing LEDs you will need more voltage.
